Dear Friends,
First, we would like to thank the community for your tremendous outpouring of love, care, enthusiasm and financial support for the effort to purchase Marpa House and allow it to continue thriving as a contemplative practice community. In addition, the outpouring of support from the neighborhood and broader Boulder community members, City Council, and other civic organizations has been very inspiring to experience.
Over the past few weeks you have helped to raise $1.8M in friendly loans and $487,000 in pledged donations allowing us to make a strong offer of $4.2M with $250,000 in earnest money, which we formally submitted this afternoon. We have been in communication with the Interim Board over the past several weeks and they were aware that we would be putting in this new offer today.
We were therefore surprised and saddened to receive the letter from the Interim Board today announcing their plans to move forward with the sale of Marpa House to the developer, and we feel it is important to respond. While the comments sent in today’s letter reflect the IB’s point of view, they are not entirely accurate from our perspective. The way in which the IB characterized the work done by Community of Marpa House, our initial offer, our current offer, and the comparison to the developer’s offer, is inaccurate and disappointing. We appreciate that the Interim Board is in an extremely challenging situation and we are grateful for their bravery, leadership and exertion in their service to the community. However, we strongly request of the Interim Board transparency and honesty in presenting to the community how the Marpa House situation has unfolded, what decisions the Interim Board has made and where we are now. In that the deal has still not officially closed we believe the community should understand exactly what options the IB still has at this point.
We will be in touch with more specifics shortly. Again, thank you for offering your dedication and care in this process.
With tender hearts,
The Community of Marpa House
